BANGALORE: Bangalore University (BU) will launch midday meal programme for students and staff members on Wednesday.
"Rural students, especially girls, tend to skip their breakfast in their rush to reach college in time. So, we have decided to offer them brunch on the campus," BU Vice-Chancellor Dr N Prabhudev had said past November, when the proposal had first come up for approval.For the programme, BU has tied up with ISKCON to cook and deliver food on campus. While students will be charged Rs 3 per meal, staff members can avail the midday meal by paying Rs 10, which is a subsidised rate.The launch will be at the Jnana Jyothi auditorium on the Central College campus. The pontiff of the Siddaganga Mutt, Shivakumara Swami, Karnataka Legislative Council Speaker K G Bopaiah, Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy, ISKCON Bangalore President Madhu Pandit Dasa are expected to be present at the event.
