As Sri Krishna Janmashtami draws in closer, preparations are in full swing at the ISKCON Bangalore campus.
As a tradition of the Hare Krishna Movement carried on for several years, verities of sweets will be distributed as prasadam to devotees who are expected to attend the festivities on August 21 and 22.
Over 62,000 laddoos have been prepared along with 20,000 pieces of ‘kaaja’(famous North Indian sweet), 16,000 pieces of Mysore pak and about 1 tonne of sweet bhoondi. This was a massive effort of 20 cooks assisted with 30 helpers who spent over 50 hours in the kitchen. 2.5 tonnes of sugar, 1.2 tonnes of besan along with 250 kilos of pure ghee was used in the preparation of these mouth-watering delicacies.
In addition to this, sweet pongal for over 2 lakh people will be prepared for devotees who will be visiting the temple on both the days of Sri Krishna Janmashtami.
Another interesting aspect of prasadam preparation was that 260 ladies from 66 different Bhajan Mandalis volunteered in packing of the prasadam. The volunteers sang sweet Bhajans and chanted slokas while they were involved in the packing process, thereby motivating them and adding to the spiritual goodness to the sweets.
