Iskcon’s Akshaya Patra kitchens as hygenic as hospital OTs | Times of India

The standards of hygiene at Iskcon’s Akshaya Patra kitchens are as high as a hospital’s operation theatre. It’s mandatory for everyone to wear gloves, shoes and a cap. None of these are reused.
Lakhs of school children in the state eat meals cooked here in these mechanised kitchens. “We maintain the highest standards of hygiene by ensuring there is minimum human handling during cooking. There’s no compromise on hygiene,” said Madhupandit Dasa, Iskcon.

Akshaya Patra is ISO22000 certified for food safety. There are periodic inspections to ensure that standards are maintained. The organisation supplies fresh and hot cooked meals to 925 schools in Bangalore every day. Besides Bangalore, there are kitchens in Bellary, Hubli, Mangalore and Mysore which dish out midday meals. No wonder then there hasn’t been a single instance of a child falling ill after an Iskcon meal.
