Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Manasnanda Tripathy has
been entrusted to investigate into the alleged manhandling of ISKCON
devotee Noel Magee Heden alias Nowal Kishore Das, a US national, and his
Odia wife Shilpa, while they were offering prayers to Lord Jagannath in
his chariot on Friday.
The couple reported the matter to the DIG of police Asit Kumar Panigrahi, who was present in a police camp. The DIG directed the Kumbharpara police outpost IIC to register a case. Later, the police had registered a criminal case against five persons, including four JTPs (Jagannath Temple Police) under various sections of the IPC.
The police also had sent Noel and his wife for a medical examination to the district headquarters hospital. Meanwhile, RDC Arabind Padhi sought a report from the Chief Security Officer of the temple over the incident, while the temple servitors, including Daitas, have condemned it.
