On October 7, Bangalore Urban Zilla Panchayat issued notices to the two NGOs in question— Akshaya Patra Foundation and Mohsin Shariff Trust. The Ksheera Bhagya scheme was launched in Bangalore Urban district on August 1, 2013.
A copy of the proceedings of the meeting of the Zilla Panchayat’s Standing Committee for Finance and Auditing is available with Express. According to the documents, Akshaya Patra Foundation has to supply milk to 907 schools in the city, covering 1,44,580 children. Mohsin Shariff Trust has to serve 71 schools, covering 11,790 children. But Akshaya Patra has been covering only 508 schools, and Mohsin Shariff Trust just five schools.
Speaking to Express, Bangalore Zilla Panchayat CEO K S Suryanarayana Rao said, “No action can be initiated against the NGOs as they are volunteer participants. However, the organisations have promised to cover all the schools by November 5.”
Akshaya Patra Foundation general manager Vinay N Kumar clarified that the NGO started the programme only from August-end. “We have informed the government about this and will cover all schools by October-end,” he said.
