Hymns of Lord Vishnu, Suprabhatam, bhajans and discourses marked the festival, at temples including Iskcon, Devagiri Sri Venkateshwara temple in Banashankari, Kote Venkataramana temple and Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Swamy temple in Thayagarajanagar.
“Around 1.5 lakh people visited our temples at Hare Krishna Hill and off Kanakapura Main Road. Laddu and Sabudana (tapioca) Payasam were distributed as prasadam. We opened Vaikunta Dwara or the door to the sanctum of Lord Vishnu at 6.15 am. In the evening, concerts were arranged,” said Bharatashaba Das, spokesperson for Iskcon. To meet the heavy rush, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation plied special buses from Majestic to Iskcon from 6.30 am to 11 pm.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) B Dayananda said there were no traffic diversions or chaos as such in the City. At Malleswaram Grounds, a free health checkup camp was organised by Sri Panduranga Vishnu Sahasranama Mandali.
Flower vendors at KR Market, who supply flowers to most of the temples in the City, did a brisk business on the eve of Ekadashi, selling the flowers at double the price.
KR Market Flower Merchants' Association president Diwakar G M said that on Friday, from early morning to noon, the prices increased due to the rise in demand. Price of Jasmine shot up to Rs 800 from Rs 500 per kg; roses from Rs 50 to Rs 100 a kg; and lilies from Rs 30 to Rs 80 a kg, he said.
