TIMES OF INDIA: PANAJI: Goa cabinet on Friday exempted International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) from payment of registration fee of Rs 23.82 lakhs. The ISKCON had written to chief minister's office in January 2015 to waive off its registration fees towards registration of deed of gift of land admeasuring 23,824 sq meters under survey no 70/1 at Chorao in North Goa.
Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar told reporters about the government's decision post cabinet meeting. In January, 2015, ISKCON had submitted a proposal to the government stating a donor had come forward to donate them land admeasuring 23824.75 sq meters which was valued at Rs 5.95 crore. The registration charges on the gift deed worked out to Rs 23.82 lakh.
It being a public charitable trust was not even in a position to bear a burden of registration fee on the piece of land donated. And sought to exempt it from payment of registration charges to enable them to accept donated land.
