Iskcon organises Iftar Samabesh

TIMES OF INDIA: KOLKATA: Nabadwip, boasts of a heritage of brotherhood among varied communities for more than 500 years. Back in the 16th century, it began when Sri Chaitanya MahaPrabhu sowed the seeds of an eternal relationship with the then magistrate, Chand Kazi by means of congregational chanting. In fact, the acquaintance blossomed into an uncle-nephew relationship. Soon after this incident Chand Kazi approved MahaPrabhu to perform Harinama Sankirtan without any government interruptions.

To uphold this legacy of brotherhood, ISKCON Mayapur is organizing, "Iftaar Samabesh" on 22 nd June evening at Geeta Bhavan premises of the temple. HG Jagadhatri Prabhu, Public relations coordinator of the temple said that as a part of such a get together of the two communities, the objective is to discuss the commonalities between the two religions- Islam and Vaishnavism and develop a connect with each other.

It is expected that elected Panchayet members of the Muslim community of Mayapur Bamanpukur Panchayat 1 and 2 will participate. Further, there will also be senior people of various institutions like the President and Secretary of 8 Masjids, 1 Idgah, 1 Madrasa and Panchayat Samiti members are expected to grace the occasion, informed Jagadhatri. He stated that ISKCON Mayapur being the spiritual capital of the world has been organising such a get together to showcase to the world that how the various communities exchange feeling of love and care for each other. He firmly expressed his belief that "if we can preach and practice the teachings of Sri Chaitanya MahaPrabhu, all negative feelings of hate, envy, animosity will be uprooted from the heart of mankind and organising Iftar Samabesh is a step ISKCON has initiated towards attaining that".

ISKCON which is celebrating its Golden jubilee globally has always practiced restraint and compassion towards every religion keeping in mind the founder Acharya of ISKCON, HDG AC BhaktiVedanata Swami Srila Prabhupada's message of practicing universal brotherhood.HG Jagadhatri Prabhu has expressed faith that this rendezvous between the various communities will further strengthen the bond of unity.

Further, he mentioned that similar to last year this year in 2016 also Jagannath Rath Yatra and Eid have fallen on same day so the "Iftar Samabesh" is aimed at sending a strong message to the universe about peace, harmony, love and trust among communities.
